Is My Plot Twist a dating app?
It is a literary matchmaking platform for both dating and friendship. You choose your connection intention — dating, friendship, or either — and you are only shown to people whose intention is compatible with yours.
Can I use My Plot Twist for friendship only?
Yes. Friendship is a full option, not a fallback. Friendship-only profiles are never shown to people looking exclusively for romance.
Do I need a Goodreads account?
No. You can search Open Library by title, author or ISBN, type books in by hand, or upload a reading list as a CSV file — including a Goodreads-style export if you happen to have one.
How many books do I need to add?
Three well-chosen books are enough to start matching. Adding more, and marking which ones mattered to you, improves the reasons attached to each introduction.
Do audiobooks count?
Yes. Audiobooks, ebooks and print are all treated as reading, and format preference is one of the reading-personality scales rather than a filter.
How does reading compatibility work?
Hard filters run first: intention, age range, distance, gender preferences, boundaries and blocks. Remaining readers are then compared on shared books and themes, reading-personality fit, productive disagreement and wildcard overlaps. You see written reasons, never a score.
Can I hide my profile from Google?
Your reader profile is behind sign-in and is not indexed by search engines. Signed-in areas of the app are marked non-indexable, so your profile, matches and messages cannot appear in search results.
Can I pause discovery?
Yes. You can take your profile out of the discovery queue at any time in settings. Existing matches and conversations stay available while you are paused.
Who can message me?
Only people you have matched with. A match happens when both people express interest, which opens exactly one conversation. There is no messaging before that.
Is My Plot Twist free?
Yes. During the current beta, creating a profile, matching, viewing profiles and messaging are free. There are no payments or subscriptions in the product today.
How old do I have to be?
Sixteen. Members aged 16 and 17 are limited to friendship matching and are never shown to adults seeking romantic connections.
