Friendship for readers
Make friends through books — My Plot Twist is not dating-only
Set your intention to friendship and you will only be shown to people looking for the same thing. Same matching, same reading profile, no romantic expectation.
Making friends as an adult is genuinely hard
Adult friendship needs repetition and a shared subject. Books supply both: there is always another chapter, another release, another argument about an ending. A reading friendship has a natural rhythm that does not depend on either person being endlessly available.
How friendship matching works
- Choose “friendship” or “either” as your connection intention.
- Friendship-only profiles are never shown to people looking exclusively for romance.
- Matching still uses shared books, reading personality and productive differences.
- A conversation opens only when both people express interest.
Readers aged 16 and 17
Younger members can join for friendship only. They are never shown to adults seeking romantic connections, and adults must not pursue romantic contact with minors. See the community guidelines for what we expect from everyone.
Good reader friendships are rarely identical
The best reading friends usually share a sensibility and disagree about the details. One recommends, the other resists, both end up reading something they would not have found alone. That is exactly the pattern the matching looks for.
What to expect first
Your first exchange arrives with a starting point drawn from your shelves — a book you both rated highly, or one you rated very differently. From there it is just two readers talking.
